Welcome to the launch of Aqaburns
As many of you know I have been making fashion yoga clothing for the last 2 and a half years.
My journey into creating clothing from my paintings began in 2000 when I created men’s silk ties from my paintings. Since then technology has moved on and so many possibilities for fashion have opened up in the print fashion world.
I have been a professional artist since 1990 when I exhibited my first piece professionally in a memorial exhibition held in honour of my late husband in England. He had been planning the exhibition with the gallery only the day before he died.
In 1990 we were in a car accident, and I was 7 and half months pregnant with our second son. Only I the driver and our eldest son survived. While I was in hospital for the next 2 months I made a sculpture of our dead son, who I named Gabriel.
The Head of Gabriel was my first exhibited work as an artist. Over the next three decades I exhibited in Australia, Los Angeles and the UK. Working first as a sculptor, then in other media including painting and over the last 10 years solely as a painter.
I have described elsewhere my journey into the yoga world. In some ways yoga found me by accident and it has been one of the greatest benefits to my life. Not only my new found practice but meeting all of you. Being included in a community that is so wonderful words are hard to find to express my appreciations and the depth of my feelings.
Aqaburns is how I give back. I create beautiful high performance yoga clothing from my paintings. Some are a straight transition onto the fabric as in the new design Evening Waterlilies and others I create a pattern from a small section of a painting.
Because all of my designs come from my paintings and I use a small palette of colours like most artist, all the clothes tend to go together. They mix and match with aesthetic ease.
“Aesthetics is a branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of art, beauty and taste and with the creation or appreciation of beauty.
Aesthetics studies how artists imagine, create and perform works of art; how people use, enjoy art; and what happens in their minds when they look at paintings, listen to music, or read poetry, and understand what they see and hear. It also studies how they feel about art — why they like some works and not others, and how art can affect their moods, beliefs, and attitude toward life.” Wikipedia
